I was dead wrong........and couldn't be happier about it.

Chris Todd stepped up Saturday night.  Auburn had no running game in the first half, and wouldn't have even been in the game had Todd not made the plays when needed in the first half.  He finally threw his first interception, but Todd did exactly what he is good at Saturday night.  He managed the game, made plays when he needed too, and kept West Virgnia honest in the second half.  WV came into the game stacking the box, exactly like everyone predicted, and made Chris Todd beat them.  Well, he did it.  Todd beat them, and now other defensive coordinators can take note.  Auburn can throw the ball too.  Stacking the box against us still won't stop us from scoring 40 points.  Now what?  Try something else?

Of course, a lot of what won the game for Auburn was WV's quarterback deciding that he liked throwing the ball to Auburn instead of his own team in the second half, but we still wouldn't have won that game had Todd not carried the Tigers passing game.  Auburn's defense is scaring me now with some of the worst tackling I have ever seen in my many years of watching Auburn football.  Sources are telling me that since AU is not very deep on defense, they spent most of the offseason doing non-contact drills, and now they are paying for it.  Noel Devine is elusive anyway, but I mean, come on!!   How many times in the last decade or two can you recall us on here complaining about Auburn's lack of tackling?  Very little, if any.  This has got to be worked on.

Special teams got a bit better, but there is still a LOT of room for improvement.

The young WR corps gets better every game.  We also already have commitments from 2 more 4 stars for next season.  Coach GM's offense is attracting some definite interest!!

Ontarrio Mccalebb's weakness was exposed Saturday night....he needs to put on some weight and still keep his speed.  However, he is still just a true freshman, and awesome!  Given a couple of years to develop physically, he's going to be playing on Sundays for sure.

Ball State will be a nice tune up game before Tennessee.  Monte Kiffin is the best defensive coordinator in the SEC, so I'm really interested to see how the offense performs against him.  Can''t wait for next week!  War Eagle!!
