Tony Barbee has added another member to his coaching staff. Ryan Miller will be joining the Auburn men's basketball program as an assistant to Coach Barbee. Miller joins Tony Madlock, Randall Dickey, and Milt Wagner as assistant coaches. Auburn has yet to officially announce the hiring so it is not known if all of the current assistants will remain.
Miller is coming from Missouri, where he only spent two months on Frank Haith's staff. News broke today that he was headed to The Plains. Prior to being at Missouri, Miller was at the University of New Mexico where he coached under Steve Alford. The Lobo's made an appearance in the NCAA tournament last year and were eliminated in the second round by Louisville.
Miller's New Mexico biography states that his time with the program coincides with the most successful run for New Mexico basketball. Miller worked with the UNM guards and also did extensive scouting for the Lobo's.
The likely connection with Coach Barbee comes from Miller's time learning under John Calipari as Barbee did. Miller worked for Calipari at Memphis from 2004-2006.
Miller's alma mater is Northern State. Following college, Miller went to the CBA and also played a couple of years of professional basketball in Melbourne, Australia.
