SEC Preview, Week 14: 'Games that aren't the Iron Bowl' edition

Streeter Lecka

Here's what the rest of the SEC is up to this weekend. Also, Happy Thanksgiving!

Other SEC teams are playing this weekend, AS IF ANYONE EVEN CARES. However, if you are prohibited from watching the Iron Bowl due to some kind of overly sadistic restraining order or something, here's what everyone else is up to. Not that we care. All times listed are Central,

Early Games

Ole Miss @ Mississippi State: Thursday, 6:30 p.m., ESPN

Ah, the Egg Bowl. Why is the annual game between Ole Miss and Mississippi State called the "Egg Bowl"? Because the trophy has an old-ass roundish football made of brass that they refer to as "The Golden Egg." That's right -- Bama may call mediocre seasons "championship years," but in Mississippi they refer to brass as gold. As far as the actual game goes, Dr. Bo and his Ole Miss offense should be able to make Dan Mullen's offseason a little more uncomfortable. One should be cautious before making wagers on this game, however. Starkville is where good football goes to die. Even the "unbeatable" Crimson Tide laid a brass egg there a couple weeks back.

Prediction:

This is not the Iron Bowl.

Arkansas @ (17)LSU: Friday, 1:30 p.m., CBS

Holidays often give sports fans some excellent sporting options during weekday afternoons. This year, we are stuck with this tripe. All season long, Arkansas has looked uglier than a sack full of fish heads, while LSU is coming off of a dominating win over Texas A&M. The type of abuse that LSU will dole out toward BERT in this game hasn't been seen since HBO took Oz off the air. May want to send the kids outside to play during this one.

Prediction:

This is not the Iron Bowl.

Saturday

(2)Florida State @ Florida: 11 a.m., ESPN

LOLOLOL. Did I say that Arkansas-LSU was going to be a blowout? No, no, no. THIS is going to be a blowout. Will Muschamp is as lost as a Bama fan in a library right now, and there is just no righting this ship this season. Despite repeated claims of support by the administration, you have to think that if Florida loses this game by 40, Coach Boom may be looking for a new job soon. As an Auburn fan, I'll keep an eye on this game just in case Florida pulls a miracle and makes the BCS route that much clearer for our Tigers, but let's just say that I'm not holding my breath.

Prediction:

This is not the Iron Bowl.

(21)Texas A&M @ (5)Missouri: 6:45 p.m., ESPN

This game has the potential to be a lot of fun. Too bad I'll be throwing back celebratory Zimas while it's on. Seriously though, this is probably Johnny Manziel's last game before announcing that he's leaving school to turn pro. Would you want to be facing Johnny Football in his last showcase before that press conference? Missouri, on the other hand, has even more to play for. The Show Me State version of the Tigers can realistically start looking toward Alabama and a potential BCS title game birth if they win here. If they lose, South Carolina sneaks into the SEC title game and Missouri settles for an upper-tier New Year's Day bowl game.

Prediction:

This is not the Iron Bowl.

(6)Clemson @ (10)South Carolina: 6 p.m., ESPN2

Clemson's only loss on the year was a complete dismantling by Florida State in front of the Tigers' home crowd. Despite that, poor Dabo seems to be fighting an uphill battle when it comes to being ranked among the other one-loss teams. Ahead of Clemson in the rankings are a one-loss Missouri and some other cool team I can't remember. A statement win against the favored Gamecocks would go a long way toward earning some national respect going into these final crucial pollings. On the other hand, South Carolina is hoping to back its way into Atlanta, and a win over Clemson would give it a lot of confidence before facing a red-hot Auburn team.

Prediction:

This is not the Iron Bowl.

Georgia @ Georgia Tech: 2:30 p.m., ABC

Listen, I hate Aaron Murray. HATE him. The only time I've ever openly rooted for him was during the 2012 SEC Championship Game, and the result only made me hate him more. Even my cold, dead heart hated to see his college career end so abruptly. The guy comes back for his senior year, and the season is doomed from the start with injuries. A long season culminates in a soul-crushing loss to Auburn and then a horrific knee injury. It's a damn shame, and this Auburn fan hopes that he heals quickly, gets drafted by a good team and subsequently gets crushed by Nick Fairley. But for money this time. The question for this weekend is "How does Georgia respond?" Georgia Tech is pretty decent -- especially at home -- and Georgia has struggled on the road all season. Could a deflated Bulldogs team be ripe for the upset?

Prediction:

This is not the Iron Bowl.

Tennessee @ Kentucky: 6 p.m., ESPNU

You want to hear a bold take? The Kentucky Wildcats will win their first SEC game in a million years this weekend against Tennessee. I actually like Mark Stoops and think he will make Kentucky about as good as Kentucky can be in football. Tennessee lost control of its state last week with a second straight loss to Vanderbilt. The Volunteers are reeling, and no one is really sure whether or not this season marked any type of improvement for them. The wheels may very well come off as the Vols complete a perfect 0-5 record on the road this season.

Prediction:

This is not the Iron Bowl.

Wake Forest @ Vanderbilt: 11:21am, SECN

Vanderbilt is looking to put up consecutive eight-win seasons under head-coach-for-now James Franklin. Wake Forest stands in the way, at least hypothetically. The Demon Deacons have hung tough against decent teams like Duke and Miami, but I have no idea how to judge a team based on its performance throughout the ACC schedule. What I do know is that there is a lot of pride on this Commodore team, and it will be prepared to match last year's win total this weekend in Nashville.

Prediction:

This is not the Iron Bowl.
