The night started off rough for the Auburn Softball team as Troy put up four runs in the top of the first inning last night. The Tigers were not to be outdone though. They came through with ten in the home half of the first to jump out to a 10-4 lead and they never looked back. Going on to add two in the second inning and 3 more in the third, the home standing Tigers run ruled the visiting Trojans who managed just one more run in the top of the fifth.
The opening night was an explosive one for the Tigers as well. The team put together fifteen runs on thirteen hits utilizing a grand slam by Carosone and a solo shot by Fagan to provide plenty of excitement and a preview of the team's ability to put up runs quickly if opposing teams make mistakes in the zone.
Davis and Walters teamed up to keep the Trojans at five runs over the five innings combining to strikeout five as hitters are usually ahead of the pitching early in the season. Davis gets win number one as the Tigers now get ready for a full weekend hosting the Plainsman Invitational with UAB, Evansville, George Washington, Appalachian St., and Chattanooga coming to town.
The Tigers will play UAB tonight at 7pm on SEC Network +. If you are in town, come out and cheer them on and check out the new video board at the park.
