Auburn running back Tre Mason was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, the conference announced. The award comes two days after Mason scored a career-high four touchdowns in the Tigers' 35-17 victory at Arkansas.
He carried the ball 32 times -- also a career best -- and compiled 168 yards on the ground, 10 yards short of the career high he set on Oct. 19 against Texas A&M. Mason averaged 5.3 yards per carry against the Razorbacks, and he finished the night with his fourth 100-yard game of the year and seventh of his career.
So far this season, the 5'10, 205-pound junior has carried 161 times for 921 yards, averaging 5.7 yards per. His average of 102.3 yards a game ranks third in the SEC, and his 13 rushing touchdowns lead the conference. With three games remaining in the regular season, Mason is on pace to rush for more than 1,200 yards before the postseason. Only South Carolina's Mike Davis averages more than his 17.9 carries per game.
It's the fifth week in a row a Tiger has won an SEC weekly award. Defensive end Carl Lawson and backup quarterback Jeremy Johnson (twice) have won Freshman of the Week honors, and starting QB Nick Marshall was named Offensive Player of the Week after Auburn's upset win over the Aggies.
