Quarterback Sean White committed to Auburn Tuesday morning, giving the Tigers their 10th pledge for the Class of 2014.
White, checks in at 6'2 and 204 pounds and plays his high school ball at Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., University School, is rated as a four-star prospect by 247 Sports and ESPN, and a three-star by Rivals and Scout. 247 lists him as the 13th-best pro-style quarterback in the class and the No. 22 player from the state of Florida. White has a modest offer sheet and chose the Tigers over Boston College, Cincinnati and West Virginia, among others.
While White's offers and ratings may seem to leave something to be desired, this is a pretty exciting commitment. His stock is definitely rising, and he really impressed folks on hand at the recent Elite 11 quarterback camp in Atlanta. In fact, White's performance was so good it won him MVP honors at the camp.
Count former NFL quarterback Trent Dilfer as among those impressed with White:
"Sean White made some throws on the sluggo (slant and go) today," Dilfer told SB Nation's Bud Elliott. "I just sat there on the sidelines, and thought 'that's a better sluggo than [Matt] Hassleback ever threw; that's a better sluggo than I ever threw,' it's that unique feel for certain throws that just blew my mind."
White has a great arm, and while he isn't the quick-footed athlete normally associated with Gus Malzahn's offense, he has enough strength and agility to get away from would-be tacklers in the backfield. But Malzahn would likely have to make some adjustments with White taking the snaps. Thankfully, the 2009 season proved Auburn's head coach can run his offense with even the most immobile quarterbacks.
With White committed, one has to wonder how this news will affect four-star quarterback Brandon Harris' decision. Harris, a dual-threat QB, is set to announce his choice Thursday, and Auburn is one of the front-runners.
