Stephen Roberts, an Under Armour All-American selection in the class Class of 2014 and a longtime Auburn commit, made his pledge to the Tigers official on Wednesday, National Signing Day. Thomas faxed in his National Letter of Intent, making him a member of Gus Malzahn's program.
Roberts, out of Opelika (Ala.) High School, is rated as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports composite, and listed as the 124th-best player in the current recruiting cycle. He's ranked No. 12 among all cornerbacks and No. 7 among players from the state of Alabama. He committed to Auburn on Nov. 20, 2013, and has remained firm in his commitment since then.
Roberts stands 6'0 and weighs in at 177 pounds, and plays much bigger than his size, although not small for a corner. He held scholarship offers from many schools around the country and chose the Tigers over top programs such as 'Bama, Clemson, FSU, and Georgia Tech.
Roberts gives Auburn another corner in this class standing 6'0 or taller, which in today's college football is something the corner position is trending towards. He could play either safety or corner at Auburn and don't be shocked if he settles in at safety. He has a nose for the ball and has no fear when attacking the running game.
