DaVonte Lambert, one of the top JUCO players in the Class of 2014 and an Auburn commit since December, made his pledge to the Tigers official on Wednesday, National Signing Day. Lambert faxed in his National Letter of Intent, making him a member of Gus Malzahn's program.
Lambert, out of Georgia Military College, is rated as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports composite, and listed as the sixth-best JUCO player in the current recruiting cycle. He's ranked as the top JUCO strong-side defensive end and the top prospect from the state of Georgia. He committed to Auburn on Dec. 18, 2013, and had plans to enroll early, but some missing credits pushed his enrollment back to summer.
Lambert stands 6'3 and weighs in at 278 pounds, which gives him good size for a power defensive end. He held scholarship offers from 14 schools around the country and chose the Tigers over top programs such as Tennessee, Florida, Arizona State, Florida State, Georgia and Miami.
Auburn will be trying to fill the hole left by defensive end Dee Ford, and while the Tigers are in good shape with players such as Carl Lawson and Elijah Daniel, Lambert will no doubt provide a boost to the D-line.
