News out of Mobile today is that Auburn running backs coach Eddie Gran interviewed for the head coaching job at South Alabama.
Truthfully, I had no idea they had a football team. It turns out, they don't - sort of.
The school is planning to field a team beginning with the 2009 season and hopes to be Division 1-A by 2013. This is just what the state needs, another Division 1-A school.
With that said, I certainly wish Gran the best of luck. He without question deserves a shot and has learned under the master.
Gran has developed and coached such stars as Rudi Johnson, Carnell Williams, Ronnie Brown, Kenny Irons and Brad Lester.
He faces stiff competition for the job. Former Southern Miss coach Jeff Bower has also been mentioned.
Here's a bit of good news for a good guy. Former offensive coordinator Al Borges is expected to interview with new Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt. The coordinator job came open after David Lee left for the Miami Dolphins this week.
Borges still has a lot left in the tank. It will be a challenge to face him if he gets the job. We wish him the best of luck.
