Tony Franklin Fired

Breaking news out of the Plains, where it is being reported that Tony Franklin has been fired as Auburn's offensive coordinator. Aside from a dozen emails in my inbox and reports of it being announced on Finebaum's show, the first thing I found was from the Opelika-Auburn News.

I'm sure the details will surface here soon and we'll bring you more as we get it in. As of right now, the sources are un-named, so we should wait until we get official confirmation of this. Nothing yet has been posted on ESPN, SI, or AL.com.

Tuberville just had his press conference yesterday, and although I got to see it from 15 feet away on my bar stool without the benefit of sound, nothing out of the ordinary appeared to be the case.

UPDATE: Looks like reports are confirmed now, including a quote from Tuberville himself. Regardless of what you felt about Franklin, this is a sad day for our program and let's hope that the team can rebound from this incident very quickly.

UPDATE (4:50 p.m. CT): Here's part of the statement released by Tommy Tuberville this afternoon...

"After evaluating where we are at this point of the season offensively, I felt it was in the best interest of the Auburn football program to make this change," Tuberville said in a statement released by the school. "I'm not satisfied with where we are and I am personally going to take a larger role with the offense the remainder of the season. We are going to work harder than ever to make sure we consistently improve as we move forward."
