Hey Vince, Hand Me The Pruner

"Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort?"

Who’s treated better these days in Athens, Georgia – Uga or Vince Dooley? It’s a good question and unfortunately for Dooley, one that’s hard to answer.

You may have read a few weeks back that Georgia has decided to name a cluster of old administration buildings and a garden after the winningest coach in school history.

Never mind that former Georgia player Pat Dye already has his name on the field at Jordan-Hare Stadium or as Bulldog alum and college football reporter Tony Barnhart points out, "Alabama (Bear Bryant), Auburn (Shug Jordan), Ole Miss (John Vaught), Tennessee (Robert Neyland), and Georgia Tech (Bobby Dodd) have all named their stadiums after the most successful coaches in school history.

But not Vince. He gets a garden – one that University president Michael Adams points out will be designed by Dooley. Is that code word for bring a pair of gloves and a shovel?

I guess it's fair to say that Dooley was treated well, like a Dawg.

Far be it for any Auburn fan to throw stones. God knows we have one of the most dysfunctional families in all of college athletics.

But even Terry Bowden is treated better at Auburn than Dooley is in Athens. At least Bowden has his picture on the stadium.

By all measure, the former Auburn quarterback is a class individual. More importantly, he made Georgia football what it is today. Damn him.

Dooley racked up 201 wins, six SEC championships and the national championship in 1980.

For that he gets a few rose bushes and some azaleas. While school officials are in the giving mood, maybe they’ll throw on a few coats of fresh paint to those circa 1920 buildings that will be part of the Dooley shrine.

If Mark Richt can win a few more games he might get his name on the visitor’s locker room.

Georgia officials should be ashamed of themselves. Bulldog fans should be even more embarrassed because they’ve stood by and let it happen.

Say what you will about Bobby Lowder – at least we don’t have Michael Adams.

To borrow a line from my friends at Dawg Sports.com, "I hate Georgia."
