As expected, Auburn jumped two spots in both the Coaches and Harris polls earlier this afternoon, moving the Tigers to number three behind Oregon and Boise State. But later this evening, if you believe the pundits, Auburn is poised to take over the top spot in the BCS. At this point in the season, the team who sits at the top of these rankings is considered the true number one. So get ready Auburn fans. Gene Chizik's Tigers now have the target on their back. We'll see how they handle it.
Here's how ESPN's Brad Edwards sees things shaking out tonight:
The top five will look like this:
1. Auburn
2. Oregon
3. Boise State
4. TCU
5, Michigan State
According to Edwards, "Auburn's profile should look very similar to what Oklahoma's looked like last week in that the Tigers probably won't be ranked higher than No. 3 in either of the polls but they should be No. 1 in the majority of computers," Edwards said. "Now, the top two teams in the polls - Oregon and Boise State - just like last week, are going to be relatively weak in those computers. Tthat's what's going to allow Auburn a chance to be up as high as No. 1 in the BCS standings."
