We learned some sad news tonight as Auburn University released the news that Mrs. Evelyn Walker Jordan, widow of Auburn legendary football Coach Ralph 'Shug' Jordan passed away on Thursday in Auburn. She was 98.
Mrs. Jordan grew up in Macon and Augusta, Georgia and later earned a bachelor's degree from the University of South Carolina and a masters degree from Auburn.
Her husband Ralph was also one of Auburn's winn ingest basketball coaches. The two met while he was on a basketball trip to Columbia. They later married and had three children: daughters Susan and Darby and son Ralph, Jr.
She was a longtime student counselor at Auburn and was awarded the University's Pamela Wells Sheffield Award in 1992 in recognition of her service and commitment to Auburn.
Miss Evelyn was a true Southern Lady who's gracious manner and love for Auburn will never be equaled. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Jordan family tonight in the passing of Mrs Jordan, the First Lady of Auburn University.
Funeral arrangements are scheduled for Monday, Nov. 7 at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Auburn.
