Auburn shortstop Casey McElroy may be the hottest hitter in the SEC if not the nation. He has been tearing it up at the plate all season.
He was 8-for-13 with two homeruns, two doubles, and six RBI's this past weekend in Auburn's SEC series win over No. 9 Arkansas at Hitchcock Field.
McElroy ranks second in the SEC in hits (36) and in homeruns. The junior infielder leads the team this season in average (.422), runs (20), hits (36), doubles (8), home runs (4), RBIs (20) and slugging percentage (.663).
Those numbers are good enough to place him among the SEC leaders at fourth in batting average, fifth in slugging percentage and doubles, and sixth in runs scored.
He has safely reached base in all 21 games this year and has a 16-game hitting streak.
Casey batted .615 in the three game series, hit two home runs, a double, and scored five runs to help Auburn win their opening SEC series against Arkansas.
For that performance, the league office named him Monday as the SEC Player of the Week.
