No. 1 seeded Tennessee scored one run on a single and another on a throwing error to eliminate Auburn from the Southeastern Conference Softball Tournament Friday.

The Tigers had been playing great ball at the right time but on Friday they could not push the runs across when the opportunity arose. Auburn left nine runners on base in the one-run game as the Vols eked out the win 2-1.

Auburn missed a scoring opportunity in the top of the second with the bases loaded but Vols pitcher Ellen Renfroe struck out the next three Tiger batters to protect the Tennessee lead.

The season may not be over for the Tigers just yet. With a 39-16 record and a No. 23 ranking, Auburn should be in a good position to receive an invitation to the NCAA National Tournament. The NCAA bids will be announced at 9 p.m. CT Sunday on ESPNU.
