Lauren Schmalz was named Southeastern Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week Monday for her performance in the Tigers win over Number 4 Georgia last Saturday. Lauren pitched a five hit complete-game.
She only allowed one leadoff hitter to reach base. And she held a Georgia team that averages 6.6 runs per game to just one run. After giving up the single run, Lauren set down 13 of the next 16 batters.
It was her second complete victory this season; the other win coming against Nunber 11 Tennessee on April 2nd. The honor is Lauren's first SEC Pitcher of the Week Award.
Auburn Head Coach Tina Deese said, "I'm very happy for Lauren and very proud of the way she pitched. Georgia is an excellent hitting team and Lauren held them to one run. She moved the ball around well and never let them get anything going offensively."
Schmalz leads the Auburn pitching staff in wins at 14-5 and is ninth in the SEC in strikeouts with 141.
Congratulations Lauren and War Eagle!
