Jonathan Jones, a Defensive back from Carrolton, Georgia visited Auburn today and committed to the Tigers at the end of his visit. The Atlanta Journal Constitution says Jones is considered "Georgia's fastest football recruit."
The 5' 11", 175 lb. DB had more than a dozen offers and chose Auburn from his final three favorites of Auburn, Mississippi State, and Georgia Tech.
He told the Journal ...
"I liked everything about Auburn, from the winning tradition to the coaching staff, along with the proximity from home. Coach (Chizik) makes it feel like one big family at Auburn, and that's one thing I really liked."
He is the second Auburn commitment from the AJC's Super 11 list for the state of Georgia. Creekside High's DB Josh Holsey widely considered one of the hottest cornerback's in the nation, committed to the Tigers in the Spring.
Jonathan played on last year's state runner up football team. The track star has competed in and won events in the Southeast and in California. This past Spring, he won the state 110-meter hurdles (14.02 seconds) and 300-meter hurdles (37.39 seconds). And he led Carrolton to it's second Team Track Championship while garnering the Class AAA All- Points Trophy.
Last November Scout's Chad Simmons said. "He may be one of the South's best Corners. He really closes on the ball well, he plays very physical, and he plays a disciplined brand of defense on the outside."
Carrollton Head Coach Rayvan Teague said, "In my 26 years, I don't think I've ever had a corner as good as Jonathan ... he's a Division I corner because of his speed and hips. But he hits like a Division I safety, which makes him kind of special."
Picking Auburn makes you even more special Jonathan. Welcome to the family and War Eagle!
