Auburn coaching rumors: Tigers interested in Bob Stoops -- of course they are

Auburn is reportedly interested in Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops. We're sure just about every other school in the country is, too.

Matthew Emmons-US PRESSWIRE

The Auburn coaching search rumors took another interesting turn Saturday morning, as Auburn Undercover reported that the Tigers are showing interest in Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops ($).

Obviously, almost every school in the country would trade their current head coach for Stoops, so Auburn having interest isn't exactly breaking news. If the search committee is actually reaching out to big names and gauging their interest, kudos to them, but if Auburn managed to hire Stoops away from the Sooners, that would have to be considered one of the biggest coaching coups ever (Clay Travis'd).

Stoops is often linked to coaching vacancies, and he always remains at Oklahoma. He commented Monday on his job status in Norman:

''I like the job I have. I love the job I have and the people I work for, so I'll try and keep it another year.''

Stoops has been at Oklahoma since 1999, compiling a 148-36 record and winning a national title in the process. The Sooners have won seven Big 12 titles and are 3-5 in BCS games during his tenure. Last September, Stoops signed a seven-year, $34.5 million extension, which works out to $4.92 million per year.

If Stoops is willing to listen to Auburn, the Tigers should make a pitch, but let's be honest, he's not moving to the Plains.
