Former Auburn Great Passes Away

Former Auburn great Wayne "Cotton" Frazier has passed away. He was a three year letterman and All-SEC Center and Linebacker for Auburn. He played for Legendary Coach Shug Jordan from 1958 - 1961 and was considered one of the best centers and linebackers in the SEC being selected in 1961 as All Conference. He was a contemporary of such Auburn greats as Ed Dyas and Tucker Frederickson.

Cotton went on to play professionally for San Diego, Houston, Kansas City, and Buffalo. He was the starting center in the first Superbowl in 1967 when the Chiefs played the inaugural game against the Green Bay Packers. Frazier is also remembered in Kansas City for being the first player to have his named introduced at Superbowl I.

Wayne Frazier was a star both at Auburn and the NFL. But he may be remember most for the lives he touched as a high school coach and later as a businessman who gave back to the community in so many ways.

He succumbed to cancer at 73 years of age. His funeral will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Brewton, Ala. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this time.
