Hello friends, and War Eagle!
I am happy to announce that we are almost 100% back in the flow, as we gear up for....wait for it....the summer doldrums. Who are we kidding, there are more items to talk about this week, than we can shake a stick at, so let's get to it.
Big Cat IV....
This weekend Auburn will host it's annual Big Cat event where a select few prospects are invited. It's a non-football weekend according to Coach Curtis Luper.
The productivity comes from the uniqueness of it of the event," Luper said. "Not anyone else in the country gets these many unofficial visits when it's not attached to a spring game or Junior Day or a camp. The reason it is popular is because kids know it's not going to be any football whatsoever, not unless it's someone here for the first time, and only then those guys will get a small introduction to Auburn football.
"Some can come as far away as Chicago, D.C. or Texas comfortably and not be in a pinch time-wise," Luper said. And when they go home, the work really begins."It's not about this weekend. It's about the experience and the bond. We'll build on that. Big Cat will be a factor," Luper said.
Numbers Game....
I have been wondering just how many actual scholarship players Auburn has, and Jay G. Tate has done an excellent job in figuring this out for us.
His numbers have Auburn at 66 players currently on the roster, with the 2012 class to be added to this number when the official roster is announced sometime in August.
HOW DOES THAT ADD UP? : Based on the educated guesses above, Auburn has 66 players on scholarship at this time. I expect another 17 signees to enroll at various points this summer, which bumps Auburn’s scholarship population to 83*. Maximum is 85.
My Take....
Coach Chizik has done an excellent job of recruiting, and has placed Auburn at an overall high as far as talent goes. There are questions for sure, mostly from us the fans, and the media, because Chizik plays his cards tightly to the vest. There has not been a decision yet by Chizik that we have had to second guess.
When Auburn steps on the field this upcoming season, they will have arguably the most talent top to bottom of any Auburn team in it's storied history.
