The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer is reporting that accused tree killer Harvey Updyke allegedly confessed to a reporter for the Auburn student newspaper The Plainsman today during jury selection.
Updyke's attorney Everett Wess apparently was not aware of him speaking to anyone today as he took questions about the incident.
During voir dire, potential jurors are instructed not to pay any further attention to stories about the case. That may be hard to do if this allegation has any merit.
Could Updyke be looking to make a circus out of this court already by intentionally causing a mistrial? If so, some revocation of bail by the judge could be in order.
