Jay Prosch Cleared To Play For Auburn In 2012

All-American Fullback and Illinois transfer Jay Prosch has been cleared by the NCAA to play for Auburn in 2012.

After Auburn's spring football camp, neither Head Coach Gene Chizik nor Offensive Coordinator Scott Loeffler could name who the starting quarterback will be in 2012. But who ever that guy is ... he just got some good news.

The NCAA announced today that Fullback Jay Prosch has been cleared to play this season. You will remember that Prosch transferred from Illinois this past year to be near his mother who is battling cancer in Mobile.

Most transfers have to sit out a season but because he transferred to be near his ailing mother, he was granted a waiver. While everyone expected this decision, you never know what the NCAA may do in any situation. And since the University had not received any word yet, it was beginning to be a concern.

Jay has already enrolled in school and participated in spring practice. Coach Chizik said he was happy for Jay and, "Appreciative for (the NCAA) understanding of his desire to attend school and play closer to home."

For his part, Jay said, "I'm extremely blessed and very thankful to have my waiver cleared. I'm excited and can't wait for my mother and family to be able to see me play this fall."

An All-American at Illinois last year, Prosch helped pave the way for Illinois' single-season rushing leader, Mikel Leshoure and the Big Ten's top rushing offense in 2010. The 6' 254 lb. Fullback may well be the most important back for Auburn this fall

He will be the guy that will be the quarterback's bodyguard on pass plays, force open holes for the running backs, and cut down blitzing linebackers. Yep Jay Prosch got some good news today but so did Auburn's starting quarterback.
