SEC Media Days...
By now the media has asked Kevin Sumlin and Gary Pinkle, the head football coaches of Texas A&M and Missouri respectively, how it feels to be "officially" a part of the SEC family. Most of the questions this week are the same questions asked since spring ball finished. HERE is a good run down of what was to be expected.
As far as Auburn and Coach Chizik, the media tried to get Gene to name a starting quarterback, and then picked the Tigers to finish fourth in the Western Division, and 6th overall in the league. Whatever..
Enjoy the spectacle for what it is, and know that this event brings us that much closer to actual football news. Hooray!
Olympic Games & Auburn....
Be proud Auburn fans everywhere. Our favorite school will be well represented in the upcoming Olympic Games in London, England. According to the AUfficial website your Auburn Tigers will number around 28 current and former athletes. For all of your Auburn Olympic information add the AU Olympic Central to your favorites list.
Football....
Actual football season starts September 1st for our Auburn Tigers. We will be a part of that big show in Atlanta, Georgia called the Kickoff Classic. I don't expect the game against Clemson to be anything less than what the event calls for, a classic.
The Tigers from the Loveliest Village will be out to prove that they are ready to be in the hunt for a National title again, while the Tigers of Clemson will want to prove that their last football game was a fluke. Auburn has an advantage in that we have seen the offense that Clemson will run, and they have not seen what type of defense, nor offense that we will run. This will put the Clemson coaching staff behind the eight ball early, and hopefully the 14 point Auburn lead enjoyed in the last meeting between these two won't evaporate as it did previously. I don't think Auburn will score a lot more points than our gathering against "Auburn with a lake", but our defense will assure that we don't have to.
Barring a rash of injuries, Auburn should win this game by 10 points or more, and head to Starkville, Mississippi with a chip on it's shoulder.
While we still have to get through two-a-day practices and the like, talk leaking out of Auburn is that this football team has been through a more stringent workout schedule, and that there have been more unofficial team meetings called by the players themselves, all in an effort to get to Miami for the BCS title game.
The workouts are voluntary, and the meetings are not held by the coaches, but the players themselves. Our 2012 Tigers look to be unified in their efforts to achieve their goals this upcoming season.
Anticipation is growing, expectations are high among fans, and the media seems to think Auburn and Coach Chizik are not ready for a run at the title. Sound familiar? This version of Auburn football is getting ready to quiet the critics, and give their fans what they want, a very competitive and very good football team. I can hardly wait.
