BCS standings, Week 9: Auburn debuts at No. 11

An impressive road win gave the Tigers a nice boost right before the first BCS standings of the season came out.

Coming off a 45-41 road win over Texas A&M, Auburn checks in at No. 11 in the first BCS standings of 2013. It's the Tigers' highest place in the standings since the national championship 2010 season.

The Tigers are ranked No. 15 in the Harris Poll and No. 17 in the USA Today Coaches' Poll, two of the three components that affect the standings. The computers, the third component love Auburn. Gus Malzahn's team is ranked seventh by the computers, coming in at No. 7, 17, 7, 5, 9 and 6 in the individual computer rankings.

Unsurprisingly, Alabama is No. 1 in the initial standings. The first big controversy of the year comes at No. 2, where Florida State is just ahead of No. 3 Oregon. The Ducks have been No. 2 in the human polls all year, and most expected that to be the case in the BCS. However, the Seminoles got a boost by getting a dominant road win at Clemson Saturday night. They're ranked first by the computers, and the Ducks are fourth. Whether or not they can hold on to No. 2 if both teams finish the regular season unbeaten remains to be seen.

Texas A&M is No. 16 in the first standings. In addition to the Crimson Tide, Tigers and Aggies, three other SEC teams are ranked: No. 5 Missouri, No. 13 LSU and No. 21 South Carolina.
