We Get Bama.

Kevin C. Cox

"We want Bama." We have seen it plastered on a fan’s poster board in stadiums across the country nearly every Saturday this football season. "We want Bama." It is a true testament to the potency of the regime that Nick Saban has built in Tuscaloosa. The University of Alabama has shown us something that the modern-day college football landscape has never seen before- an ever-beating, damn near perfect, consistency. This consistency has long since drained this Barner’s energy to hate on Alabama. At this point, I can only hate Alabama one week a year. The other weeks I have to tip my cap at their dominance as they roll through their schedule.

Lucky for me, that one week is upon us. Iron Bowl Week.

On the morning of November 24, 2012, we all woke up knowing what was going to happen that day. We watched anyway. I can only imagine how much the Auburn football team did not want to walk into that locker room in Bryant Denny and put on the Orange and Blue. Has that ever happened before? An Auburn football player not wanting to suit up for the biggest game of the year? It certainly happened last year.

Whenever someone would comment to me about how fast and how hard the Auburn Tigers had fallen, I would simply nod and smile and say, "I like to think of it as a character building year." Last year, when Auburn was annihilated by a score of 49-0, those boys most definitely learned a little something about character. I now think of the 2013 season as the realization of that character building year.

Everyone wants to know, how on God’s green Earth did Auburn make this kind of turnaround? No doubt, it’s been a shocking season, but I believe this season is simply what Auburn left on the field last year. Sure, we have our man Gus driving the Bus and a guy named Nick Marshall sitting shotgun, but this 2013 Auburn team is almost identical to the 2012 team. It is almost as if 2012 Auburn was the Mystery Machine, and Gene Chizik was chilling in the back with Scooby the whole time. Ruh Roh Raggie.

"We want Bama."

Upon seeing those signs, Auburn and Alabama fans alike tilt their head in condescending adoration, "Aw that’s cute." Why do you want Bama? You win all year so you can have your butts handed to you in the only game that matters? Fans across the country have made Alabama the end-all-be-all of college football. Alabama has become the pedestal from which they wish to stand. When you want to become your enemy, you cannot beat your enemy. Hell, look at LSU.

That is where Auburn is different. The Auburn football program does not want to be Alabama. No, they want to hit Alabama square in AJ McCarron’s chest tattoo. Auburn plays Alabama every single year. This is not our once in a lifetime opportunity to climb that pedestal. We have been here before. So put down your cute little signs and tune into CBS on Saturday. Auburn may not win, but they will show you what it takes to beat Alabama.

We get Bama.

War Damn.

We're all just trying to have a good time here. Don't be a jerk, and we won't have a problem with you. War Eagle!
