It's the beginning of February. Spring is just around the corner. Pitchers and catchers report for practice in just a few days, and before you know it, baseball season will be under way. The excitement of warmer weather, a new season of America's Game down on The Plains, and hopefully a run at Omaha are becoming palpable. To that end, Auburn head baseball coach John Pawlowski sent out an open letter to the Auburn student body earlier today to encourage them to make Plainsman Park an electric atmosphere this spring.
Dear Auburn students,
War Eagle! The 2013 Auburn baseball season is now less than two weeks away and I am very excited about this year's team. I wanted to take a moment to personally thank you for coming out in great numbers last season and ask you once again for your support at Plainsman Park in 2013. Auburn has the best students in the country. Just as our students have begun to make "The Jungle" an electric atmosphere and home-court advantage for our basketball team, it is my hope that you will continue to demonstrate that Auburn Spirit at baseball as well.
Student support matters to our players and it matters to the recruits who are here to see us play. On gamedays players get to reap the rewards of all their hard work, and there is nothing better than playing in front of a packed house of fans, as well as their fellow students. For recruits it's the chance to experience what it's like to be an Auburn Tiger, and that is very important in building for the future. Auburn students definitely play a vital role in the success of this program.
We have a 34 game home schedule this spring at Plainsman Park, which includes a challenging conference schedule against many highly ranked opponents. You have an opportunity to watch some great baseball and cheer on your Tigers. We are thankful to the Athletics Administration for extending their policy that was put in place last year to continue to allow students into baseball games, FREE of charge.
Thanks again for your passion, enthusiasm and support of our team. I know we can count on you to create energy at Plainsman Park again this season. Opening Day is Feb. 15 against Maine at 3pm. Also, please be on the lookout for our players and the Diamond Dolls on the Haley Center concourse next week as they will be on hand to pass out flyers and schedule cards for the 2013 season!
War Eagle!
Coach John Pawlowski
With Auburn Baseball turning in less-than-desired results the past two seasons, Pawlowski and his staff are in need of a solid year and perhaps a postseason run to avoid the coaching hot seat. Let's hope the Tigers show up big this year and return to its traditional winning ways on the diamond.
War Eagle!
