Auburn football recruiting: Jason Smith signs with Auburn

Jason Smith made his commitment official on Wednesday, signing his LOI.

Kevin C. Cox

Jason Smith the No. 202 rated player by 24/7 Sports has signed the National Letter of Intent to play at Auburn. Smith is listed as a wide receiver, but he played quarterback at McGill Toolen HS in Mobile, AL.

Smith will probably get a look at quarterback for the Tigers, but don't be surprised if he finally settles in at wide receiver. Smith is very athletic and Auburn will want Smith on the field, and won't waste his athletic ability by letting him be backup QB his whole career. Smith showed great hands and ball skills at the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game even after playing quarterback all season.

Smith has been committed to Auburn since July 2012 and has remained committed through the 3-9 season and the firing of Gene Chizik and the whole Auburn staff. He was very satisfied with the hiring of Gus Malzahn. Smith will fit in Gus Malzahn's offense as either a wideout or quarterback, but if he's to make an early impact, it will be at wideout.

Smith is the No. 27 ranked wide receiver and No. 9 ranked player in Alabama.
