Peyton Barber, the No. 483 rated recruit according to 247Sports, has officially signed to play for Auburn. Barber faxed in his National Letter of Intent earlier Wednesday.
Barber, who played for Milton High School in Alpharetta, Georgia, chose Auburn over Ole Miss and Tennessee, the two other finalists for his services.
Peyton had zeroed in on Auburn after being a long-time Ole Miss commit. Barber started to look at other schools when Ole Miss offered another running back in a once long-time Auburn commit, Jordan Wilkins. Barber then connected with Tim Horton, his primary recruiter and committed to Auburn shortly after his official visit on Feb. 2.
Barber was the 29th-highest running back in the 247Sports rankings. He joins an Auburn squad that, after the departure of Mike Blakely earlier this year, is in dire need of depth at the running back position. We believe Barber will more than help in this area, and that, quite frankly, at a 3-star rating, is extremely underrated.
