Win or lose: May be good start for Auburn Basketball

Auburn plays Colorado tonight in ESPN2 showdown

John Reed-USA TODAY Sports

The Tigers are off and running in the Bruce Pearl era. Tonight they will play a Colorado team that is returning a lot of the pieces they had last year leading to a Tourney bid. It is early in the season but win or lose Auburn may set themselves up for a great resume later.

Colorado has been picked by some to be a challenger to Arizona, the PAC-12 favorite. Returning center Josh Scott returns after leading the team with 14.1 points and 8.4 rebounds last year. Askia Booker may be the biggest challenge to the Tiger's defense though. Booker is an experienced ball handler leading a dangerous lineup.

Best chance for a Tiger victory: get to the Colorado bench. One of the questions for the Buffaloes is whether they have depth coming off the bench to give their starters a blow. The Tigers will need to attack the basket and try to stay hot from the perimeter in order to keep the Buffaloes on their heels. Combine that with good free throw shooting and the Tigers may just get a win. Win or lose though, the Tigers could make a statement and add a hard-fought game to their resume and start the road toward a post season appearance in Pearl's first season.

My guess: Colorado 70, Auburn 66
