After a nine day layoff from the heart-breaking home loss to Coastal Carolina, the Auburn Tigers are back on the court again to face the Tigers By The Lake.
This will be a very different Auburn team, though. Auburn has struggled with depth issues and their primary shooters going cold at times. When they take the court this afternoon, there will be three additions to the team.
Sophomore forward Alex Thompson has rejoined the team after a semester long "leave of absence." Guard Antoine Mason - the nation's leading scorer last season - should return to the line-up for the first time since the opening game against Milwaukee.
The biggest addition - in size - though, is 7' center Trayvon Reed. Reed is by far the biggest player on the team. He is six inches taller than the next tallest players. I don't expect Reed to play terribly much this afternoon, since he only just started practicing yesterday, but he will get some minutes in relief of others. It will be impossible to keep someone of his size off the court just for the disruptive presence he will provide.
With this - and barring any other injuries - the team you see on the court today should be what the Auburn Tigers' 2014-15 basketball team will look like going forward as we head into a home-stretch of non-conference play and then into the SEC season.
Hopefully the addition of another big man and regaining one of the biggest scoring presences will make this a much stronger team.
