Auburn Recruiting: Mid-year JUCO Signing Day Report

Auburn is able to sign mid-year JUCOs today.

Three prospects have already signed with the Auburn Tigers this morning, including one who has not already signed but is already practicing with the team. Interestingly enough, this is the second time two of these prospects have signed with Auburn.

Jovon Robinson, RB

Jovon Robinson originally signed with Auburn in 2012 while wearing an amazing suit. Some high school transcript discrepancies led to him being declared ineligible shortly into spring practice for the 2012 season, and Robinson left Auburn to go the JUCO route. Robinson excelled in JUCO, becoming a 5* running back and highly sought after by many schools. In 2013 he had 2387 yards rushing on 272 attempts. He had offers from Alabama, FSU, and Georgia. Once Auburn was cleared to recruit Robinson again, however, he quickly committed to the Tigers and wasted no time in getting back to the Plains. Though he was only able to officially sign today, he has been practicing with the team since bowl practice began on Monday and is already earning praise for his work.

Here are some of Robinson's JUCO highlights.

Jason Smith, ATH

Jason Smith also originally signed with Auburn before going the JUCO route. He was a class of 2013 McGill-Toolen dual-threat QB who went to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College where he redshirted in 2013 and then played this past season. Smith threw 165 passes and completed 102 of them for 1566 yards as MGCCC's quarterback. He also rushed 80 times for 424 yards. Smith will get a look at QB, but will likely end up a WR or DB. He is rated the #1 JUCO "Athlete" in this year's class according to 247Sports.

Here are some of Smith's highlights as a senior QB at McGill-Toolen:

Maurice Swain, DT

As I was putting the finishing touches on this article, word came out that JUCO DT Maurice Swain - also of MGCCC - signed with Auburn, as well. Things had been leaning in Mississippi State's direction the past few days, but Swain ultimately chose the Tigers. With Auburn losing four defensive tackles to graduation who have been major contributors over the past few years in Angelo Blackson, Gabe Wright, Ben Bradley, and Jeff Whitaker, an experienced defensive tackle was a huge need for the Tigers. They got that this morning in Swain, a 6'4", 295 pound tackle originally from Troup County High School in Lagrange, Ga. Swain is rated the #7 JUCO DT and #5 in their composite of all sites by 247Sports.

Here is a link to some of his highlights available on Hudl.com.

Be sure to check back throughout the day, as there are other targets Auburn is after who will announce their decisions, today. It is not really expected any others will sign with Auburn, but there are always shockers in the recruiting world.
