After playing most of its early season games away from home, the Tigers return to action in Auburn Arena tonight against the Winthrop Eagles.
Winthrop is 4-4 so far this season, with games played against #21 Maryland ( 82-62 loss) and at Clemson (77-74 win). The victory over Clemson is a bit disheartening for Tiger fans, as that's the team Auburn just lost to on Sunday afternoon 72-61. Their leading scorer so far this season is #10, Senior guard Keon Moore, averaging 17.3 points per game.
Winthrop is only the second team Auburn has faced this season who did not make some form of post-season tournament last year according to Auburn's official game notes. So while the 3-5 record looks bleak, it is against very good competition.
It also has come courtesy of the Tigers being very low on depth. This changed in the Clemson game, as Auburn welcomed back Antoine Mason and added Trayvon Reed to the squad. The results were an improvement in the Tigers' scoring ability.
Reed will now have a few more practices under his belt, and may see a bit more playing time. Hopefully the home crowd will lift the Tigers over the visiting Eagles and set them on the way to finish strong in non-conference play.
