Tonight, Auburn welcomes back one of the most successful coaches to ever prowl the court-side of the Loveliest Village on the Plains. Cliff Ellis - now the head coach at Coastal Carolina - will bring his 5-2 Chanticleers to Auburn to take on first year head coach Bruce Pearl's 3-3 Tigers.
Everyone has their coaches from their time on the Plains. Cliff Ellis was the head coach during my time as a student. It was Cliff Ellis' 1999 team that led to my brother deciding he didn't want to go to school anywhere else. I remember the run the Tigers made into the tournament in 2003 (their last trip to the big dance).
Things will look a little different for Cliff Ellis on Friday night. Auburn now plays in Auburn Arena rather than Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum. He returns with a team he's led to the NCAA tournament. Members of his Auburn teams will be honored tonight, as well. Including Friend of the Blog Kyle Davis, Auburn record holder for blocked shots.
If you're able to make it, I implore you to head to the Arena and help honor those teams and a former Auburn coach. And then cheer your Tigers on under their current coach to get a much-needed victory in front of the home crowd after some rough road trips of late.
