Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl has been vying for a 2-for-1 series with Middle Tennessee and now he is a signature away from getting his wish. The Tigers basketball team has agreed, in principle, to a three-game series with the Blue Raiders over the next three seasons. If everything goes like it should, the series will begin on December 29th, with Auburn hosting Middle Tennessee at Auburn Arena.
The 2015 season will send the Tigers to Bridestone Arena in Nashville to take on MTSU. The contract still has to be signed, but the 2016 season will also feature Auburn and Middle Tennessee facing off on a neutral court at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center in Birmingham, Alabama.
This series comes from attempts at strengthening Auburn's schedule in hopes of boosting their RPI for years to come. The Blue Raiders finished 24-9 overall and were in a four-way tie for first place in the Conference USA last season, so they aren't a pushover by any means. Other non-conference games that have already been scheduled include at Colorado, at Texas Tech, and at Clemson.
