Yesterday, Tiger, War Eagle VI passed away into the quiet night. Like many of you, we have watch these beautiful birds soar around our stadium before every home game. And no many how many times we witnessed her flight, the swooping and diving all to the sound of thousands and thousands of voices that kept her aloft, we were never once, not without awe at the spectacle. This our tribute to her in all her beauty and grace. Words by John Gillespie Magee Jr.
Oh I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-slivered wings
Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds...
wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence
Up, up the long delirious burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace...
and, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
the high untrespassed sanctity of space,
put out my hand and touch the face of God.
Tiger.
War Eagle VI.
Forever.
