Hello, everybody! The fine folks at SBNation have entrusted yours truly with following the exemplary efforts of Chris Fuhrmeister & Company in managing this wonderful orange and blue corner of the Internet. I decided I needed to introduce myself and throw out some of my Barner credentials.
My name is Walt Austin. If you've been a frequent participant in the comments here, perhaps you've seen me post under my old username of AUTigerGSUEagle. If you've ever visited The War Eagle Reader, then perhaps you've read some of the things I've written, there. I've been around various Auburn sites commenting for a long time starting with TheAuburner, Jerry Hinnen's old Joe Cribb's Car Wash, The War Eagle Reader, Auburn Undercover, and then discovering College and Magnolia.
I have been going to college football games since I was five years old. My father is a graduate of Georgia Southern University, and I may honestly have been to more Georgia Southern football games in my life than Auburn games (though the gap is narrowing). My father grew up mainly in LaGrange, GA and was a huge fan of all things Auburn and passed that on to both of his sons. I attended my first Auburn football game in 1990 vs Vanderbilt as a boy of eight and was immediately in love. I came to Auburn as a student in the fall of 2000 from my home town of Griffin, GA. Though I've lived all over the world, I've never called anywhere else home since. I graduated with a B.A. in History in 2004 and commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in Alabama Army National Guard. I moved over to the Georgia Army National Guard a few years back and have remained there even though I'm back living in Auburn.
Things about me: I enjoy cigars, scotch, and bourbon, but never more than one or two a week of each. My post game comments will probably reference what type of those I'm having in relation to the outcomes of the games. I love to play golf and do so wearing orange and blue knickers. I love to run Auburn's campus in the early morning hours when it's calm and there is hardly anyone else out. If you follow my personal Twitter account (AUTigerGSUEagle), you'll find comments on all of the above along with references to TV shows like Archer, Justified, and Game of Thrones
The top of the site says this is an Auburn Community. That's exactly what I want this site to be and I'm open for ideas and thoughts on how we can make it better. I will be in town for most all home games and would love to meet each and every one of you who read this site if you have the opportunity to be there as well. I may miss some games due to National Guard obligations, but for the most part I'll be around. I hope you will all bear with me as we try to get things back up and running on a good schedule of posting original content. Thankfully, it's the offseason and we'll have time to work out some of the kinks. All of the voices that have made this site great will remain and hopefully we'll pick up a few new ones along the way.
In regards to general board rules of conduct, comments, etc, I subscribe to the Army's process of changing leadership. This means there will be no changes for a while at least, and I do not anticipate there to be any changes. All policies and procedures remain in effect. I look forward to starting this new adventure with all of you and having a lot of fun enjoying all things Auburn.
War Eagle! Now let's get this party started.
