Auburn received some more good news on the recruiting front this weekend with the commitment of Richard McBryde, a 6'2", 210 pound LB from Troy, AL. McBryde is rated as a 4 star by 247 Sports and is Auburn's second verbal commitment at linebacker for the 2015 class. He committed to Auburn over offers by Miami, Alabama, LSU, USC(e), and a number of others.
From what I've read, McBryde is a real head-hunter at the position with great technique in tackling. This is something we have been sorely missing at linebacker over the past few years. With the last few recruiting classes, Auburn has made some serious upgrades at the linebacker position. As someone whose fandom grew during the Tuberville years, I'm ecstatic about the possibility of a strong linebacker corps.
Auburn may not be finished with linebackers for this year's class as they are still heavily recruiting Jeffrey Holland against Florida and UCLA. Auburn is close to filling the class already, though some may be risks of decommiting and opening up a few more slots. One of the biggest causes of concern for many Tigers fans right now is the lack of a single DL commit in the current class.
Regardless of whether Auburn grabs Holland in this class, McBryde appears to be an excellent pick up for the Tigers at a position that has been sorely lacking for a few years. We are very close to having real depth of talent at the position for the first time in a while and that is something to be very excited about.
