Everett Duke brought you a plan of Auburn's sports teams this weekend in his Home on the Plains column Monday afternoon. Clint Richardson is here to let you know about the busy day on Friday here for those traveling into down early for the game on Saturday.
Talk about a crazy Friday
The football season (finally!) starts Saturday for us Auburn fans. But the real fun starts Friday. If you're coming into town Friday for the game, here's a quick rundown of Friday's schedule. You'll certainly want to plan ahead with all that's going on.
3:00 - All-Star Lecture Series: David Housel - Former Athletics Director David Housel will kick off the All-Star Lecture Series with a talk centered around the 75th anniversary of Jordan-Hare Stadium and the history of the stadium. The lecture will be in the Goodwin Room of the Auburn Alumni Center.
4:00 - Jordan-Hare Stadium Locker Room Tours - Enjoy a great look into the Jane and Mike McCartney Brick Plaza and Auburn football locker rooms. Get your picture taken with the National Championship trophy and Pat Sullivan, Bo Jackson, and Cam Newton's Heisman Trophies as well as their jerseys. Then head out and enjoy the beautiful view of Pat Dye Field. The gates stay open until 6:00.
5:00 - The Reverse Tiger Walk - head on over to the Athletic Department to wish the football players good luck as they head to their hotel in Montgomery. Auburn always claims this starts at 5:00, but with past experience, you want to get there by at least 4:30 to get a look at all the players.
5:00 - Tiger, War Eagle VI, Public Memorial - A public memorial service for their first eagle to fly freely in Jordan-Hare will be held at Plainsman Park. Speakers during the memorial include Auburn Athletics Director Jay Jacobs, Auburn College of Veterinary Medicine Dean Calvin Johnson and Marianne Hudson, assistant director of raptor training and education at the Southeastern Raptor Center. A video highlight film is also planned. Immediately following the memorial program, Hudson and raptor specialist Andrew Hopkins a will conduct Football, Fans and Feathers, a raptor show, flight demonstration, and educational program.
7:00 - Auburn Soccer - The first Auburn soccer home game, as well as the very first Auburn event on the SEC Network, will be versus UC-Irvine in the kickoff of the Auburn Soccer Classic. Auburn takes on Georgia Southern on Sunday at 2:30.
Boy, that is a packed Friday afternoon. I plan to be at the Locker room tours, the Reverse Tiger Walk, and the soccer game, so I hope to see many of you there! Last year I began covering the Reverse Tiger Walk for The War Eagle Reader and AUFamily, and I'm glad to add College & Mag to that list. You can follow me on twitter @Clintau24, or any of the great accounts previously mentioned, to stay in touch with everything going on this weekend.
War Eagle!
