With just under six months to go, Auburn's class of 2015 is already approaching completion. We'll have a big picture article up very soon, I promise, but right now let's talk about the new commitment!
Six months left, class almost done, and this is the first defensive lineman to commit to the Tigers. And at a position of need, given we're losing some DTs very soon. In 2015 or depth at DT will need some serious help given how many underclassmen we'll have. Jauntavius Johnson helps fill that void. Johnson is listed at 6'2", 330lbs. That's a big boy. I imagine he will drop a good bit of that weight as soon as he enters Ryan Russell's conditioning program. He's from Lincoln, AL and has offers from Alabama, Louisville, Mississippi State, and Southern Miss.
That's not the most impressive offer sheet at first glance outside of the obvious, but I think it's clear that the coaches of both Auburn and Alabama believe Johnson can be something special. He shows as a 3* in the 247Sports composite, and 247Sports rates him as a 4*, so some of the recruiting gurus believe he's a talent, as well.
This is a good pick up for the Tigers, and should lead to a good sigh of relief among many who have been anxious for Auburn to add a defensive lineman commitment to the class. There are still other DL prospects on the Tigers' board including 5* Trent Thompson of Albany, GA who will be announcing soon. Thompson is considered a UGA lean at the moment, but the Tigers still have a chance. And there's a long way to go until February.
