Homecoming Eve Auburn news and notes

Jamie Squire

Happy Friday morning everyone. With yesterday's light day for the football team, there wasn't going on around the Auburn beats.

AL.com's Joel Erickson and Brandon Marcello put up a video discussing Auburn's chance to get the ground game back to its usual lofty numbers tomorrow and other keys to the game.  Marcello also wrote on the topic here talking about CAP, Corey Grant and Nick Marshall hoping their blocks are better and the Bulldog defenders aren't as disciplined as those Wildcats were.

The Plainsman has a feature on Corey Grant and his work this season on trying to be a more complete back, featuring quotes from his position coach, teammates and Gus and Rhett.

On the defensive side of the story, Alex Byington talks here about the secondary hoping they can continue their strong play with a patchwork group of guys with a kaleidoscope of positional history. Josh Holsey, Rudy Ford and Jonathan Jones were all highlighted across the Auburnet yesterday, with James Crepea sharing video of Holsey and AuburnSports.com posting an interview with an accompanying article on Jones.

A member of the secondary who hasn't yet got his chance to shine is San Mateo (CA) juco transfer Joe Turner. Ryan Black featured Turner yesterday in a brief update on the final member of 2014's signing class.

Bryan Matthews put up a note about juco commit Jason Smith, quarterback at Mississippi Gulf Coast CC. Smith threw for three scores and ran for another last night as sixth-ranked MGCCC routed No. 6 Jones, 42-3 - in front of Gus Malzahn.
