While we've been wallowing in misery at the less-than-stellar course Auburn football has taken for 2015, SEC Basketball season is quietly approaching. The Tigers will play their first exhibition game next week. Head coach Bruce Pearl was at SEC Network HQ in Charlotte today for SEC Media Days.
A lot of discussions, panels, video, etc came out of that event. So, I decided to wait for the end of the day (having to do actual real-job work kept me from doing it as the stuff came out, too), and then roll it up into one big link dump type article.
I'm sure more will come out, but for now here is what some Auburn basketball stuff to satiate your appetite!
I don't think it's any surprise that Kentucky was picked to win the SEC. Auburn was picked to finish 10th. That's not really all that surprising, given how the Tigers played last season. How does Cinmeon Bowers feel about that choice, though? Well, he feels the Tigers are under-appreciated. The run through the SEC Tournament showed what Auburn is capable of, to him.
In addition to being picked 10th by SEC Media and National Media, no Tigers made it on to the pre-season All SEC Team, either.
Bowers and Harris were just honored to represent Auburn. I think it says a lot about Cinmeon that he was chosen to go to Media Days. Hopefully he's become a mature leader for the team on and off the court. I know Coach Pearl had a US Army motivational speaker speak to the team this afternoon and I'm not sure if Pearl, Harris, and Bowers were back in time to see him, so those are two players that I think Coach Pearl believes didn't need to hear what he said as much as some of the others.
Did you clutch your chest and scream "NOOOOOOOO!!!!" like that horrible Episode III version of Darth Vader every time Bowers pulled up to shoot a 3 last year? Well, don't expect that to get better this season. In fact, you may even be doing it more often.
This isn't from today's Media Days, but it's worth noting. Jordon Granger sat out Tuesday's practice due to concussion protocols. Hopefully Granger gets to feeling better, soon.
Also, don't forget Thursday's Pearl Jam. Come get your actual "Pearl Jam" (rumored to be orange marmalade, I believe).
Check here to see video of Bruce Pearl talking about the SEC getting tougher. Here he is talking with other SEC coaches about the significance of combines in college basketball. These were originally embeds, but for some reason the code stopped working right.
Ok, so this isn't Media Days stuff, and it's almost just shameless self promotion of the site, but here's some other things to show you where Auburn basketball is going in case you've missed it over the last few weeks:
