David Marshall of Upson-Lee in Thomaston, GA was once committed to Auburn. Back on June 2nd, he decided to reopen his commitment and take a little more of a look around. However, he always said the Tigers were at or near the top. Ole Miss made a strong play for him, but ultimately he decided tonight that Auburn was where he wanted to be.
Marshall is listed at 6-2.5 and 256 lbs according to his 247Sports profile. He's still a composite three star, though Auburn and others have been very impressed with his play. Given that Alabama and Ole Miss were recruiting him, you know someone sees more than just the stars. He also claimed offers from Mississippi State, Miami, UGA, and others.
HIGHLIGHTS
Here's his hudl film:
Upson-Lee isn't exactly a small division high school, and he looks like a big kid compared to some of those he's playing against. I like his motor and ability to burst through the middle. He also looks like he's quick at making the tackle once he gets a hand on the QB. I love that he puts his arms up and makes an attempt to make a play even if he sees the QB is going to get the ball out.
The Class
With Marshall rejoining the class, the Tigers are back to 12 commitments. the Tigers were in 28th place in the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings prior to this. Clemson was the only other team to also only have 11 commitments and still be in the Top 30. Auburn jumps from 28th all the way up to 21st with this pick up. They still remain 9th in the SEC, though.
After taking some time to make this decision, you have to think Marshall is going to stick this time, right? Hopefully so. It's obvious the coaches really like him if they kept pursuing him after the decommitment. He is the third defensive end to join the class and the fourth defensive lineman. He may not be the last defensive end to join the class this weekend, either. A big time JUCO could pledge to the Tigers before the weekend is up. We'll have something on that as soon as it happens.
