Gus Malzahn Addresses Duke Williams, Injuries, Position Battles

Gus Malzahn met with the media Tuesday evening. All credit to the beat writers who were there.

John Reed-USA TODAY Sports

I don't know what to say about the "old school" practice. Hopefully the players got some things out of their system and come back ready to kick some hind-end after the bye week.

As for the Duke Williams situation, he was as cryptic as always. It is very much a shame that Duke is not even remaining in school. I really wish him nothing but the best and hope he can get everything together.

So, every position is open? That's intriguing. There's a wide receiver slot right there for the taking if anyone wants to step up. Hopefully Tre Williams is healthy after the bye week and is able to compete/win a starting job at linebacker. I think it's there for him with McKinzy playing some defensive end/Buck.

Also on the injury front, it looks like everyone but Carl Lawson should be back for Kentucky if TJ Davis is able to play. Davis' recovery is nothing short of remarkable, and depth in the secondary is something we can definitely use. He was getting praise in the spring before his injury.

Roc's role could expand, huh? I still say line him up in the slot or put him in the speed sweep role. Let him do the close-to-the-line stuff that Ricardo Louis has been doing since he's shown good hands catching the ball and turn Ricardo Louis loose on the deep ball.
