If you follow recruiting at all, this is one that you've been hearing was a good possibility to happen over the last few weeks. Now it has.
247Sports Composite Three Star Marlon Character of Atlanta (Grady High School) has flipped from the South Carolina Gamecocks to the Auburn Tigers. Character's offer list consists of just about anyone you can think of in big-time football. Most of the SEC, quite a few ACC and B1G schools. Many offered him. Now he's decided he wants to be an Auburn Tiger.
From many reports, Character (6'0, 170 lbs) was Will Muschamp's primary target at the Safety position. He brings height to a position where Auburn hasn't had a lot of it, lately. It's also a position sorely lacking in depth with departures from last season and with so many seniors this year. For Muschamp to get his main target is big for him and his defense in 2016.
The Highlights
The Class
Auburn's 2016 recruiting class currently was at #22 before the Character commitment. With his pledge, the Tigers should jump back into the Top 20 at the #18 spot, just ahead of Texas A&M. It also moves them to 7th in the SEC.
More good news could be on the way soon, as well. The Tigers could pick up a JUCO defensive end, and there are a number of other big targets on the board. #1 WR Kyle Davis was expected to announce last week, but has since delayed his decision. He's between UGA and Auburn, reportedly, and if you compare the QB situations, even with as bad as Auburn's offense has been this season, you have to think watching Sean White and knowing he's a freshman could play big into Davis' decision.
