Auburn Tigers 2015 NFL Draft Prospect Gabe Wright

The NFL Draft is a week away. Over the next few days we'll be examining the Tigers likely to be drafted and those who stand a good chance of picking up an Un-Drafted Free Agent (UDFA) deal.

Gabe Wright, defensive line

While the 2014 defense struggled, Gabe Wright still turned enough heads to earn an invite to the Senior Bowl and the NFL Combine. After a breakout junior year, Wright's stats dropped off in 2014, but Wright has the skill set that NFL teams are looking for. He's currently projected to be drafted sometime in the second or third round, and most experts have his stock rising in these last few days before the draft.

By the Numbers

Wright finished last season with 24 tackles, 4.5 tackles-for-loss and one sack. By comparison, he made 8.5 tackles-for-loss and three sacks during the 2013 season.

Stats

2011 12 3 1
2012 19 4.5 1
2013 31 8.5 3
2014 24 4.5 1

Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths

Wright is quick and tough. He has great speed off the line, allowing him to quickly get into the backfield and to the opposing quarterback. He hasn't been prone to injuries and played in every game during his career. Wright is versatile and can play as an end or tackle.

Weaknesses

Like Nick Fairley before him, there is some question as to whether or not Wright gives the same level of effort with each play. He's not as effective on run plays as he could be, and his drop in productivity last season could be cause for concern.

Highlights

There aren't a lot of videos to choose from, but here is one from the Patriots website. Could that be a potential landing spot?

The NFL Draft begins Thursday, 30 April 2015, at 8pm EST / 7pm CDT.
