Auburn Softball Falls 6-1 to LSU in Game 1 of Women's College World Series

Auburn drops its first ever Women's College World Series game to LSU 6-1

A four run 3rd inning for LSU, a pitcher who was throwing an amazing game, and a few unforced errors by Auburn were all the difference in the game for the LSU Tigers.

Auburn had two unforced errors that would eventually lead to runs, including one directly. Auburn's batters getting the bat on the ball, but just couldn't do quite enough to get runners across.

LSU meanwhile had two big home runs, a solo shot in the 1st and a two run shot in the 3rd. The 3rd inning was the big difference as it made the differential five runs. That's not normally an insurmountable lead for the Auburn Tigers, but when you're facing a pitcher throwing as well as LSU's Carley Hoover was throwing, every run is precious.

Auburn's lone run came on a sac-fly in the 5th inning by Jenna Abbott. It was Auburn's first run in the Women's College World Series in team history in Auburn's first game.

History is not in Auburn's favor going forward. Only two teams have won the WCWS after dropping Game 1. The Tigers will face Tennessee on Saturday morning at 11am in an elimination game.
