UPDATE: If you've found your way to this article looking for the Sunday 31May Elimination Game, then here's a redirect to the article on that one! This was for the original Friday game.
Auburn baseball is back in the post season, and looking to make a run to Omaha for the College World Series.
It's going to take a lot of work to get there, though. Tuco has already done an excellent job in previewing this particular match-up. You should go check it out if you haven't already.
Auburn announced yesterday afternoon that Cole Lipscomb will be the starting pitcher for this game. This is after saying earlier in the week that Auburn would not be starting Lipscomb. Who knows what the strategies are regarding pitchers, since Lipscomb is one of the only sure pitchers Auburn has, right now. Keegan Thompson has been cleared to pitch again, but only in very limited action.
College of Charleston is the #2 team in this regional, while Auburn is #3. The winner will take on the winner of #1 Florida State and #4 Mercer. Odds are it will be Florida State, but you never know in post-season play. Last season Florida State lost their opening game of their home regional to Georgia Southern.
As with Softball, the Regional is a double-elimination tournament. One big difference in baseball, however, is that the team that if the team from the elimination bracket wins Game 1 of the Regional final (their second game of the day), then a deciding match will be played the following day. There will be two games today, two games tomorrow, and then two on Sunday with a possible game on Monday. Thanks to AU_Jonesy for pointing that out to me in the comments.
