Auburn may lost #1 WR Nate Craig-Myer's commitment, but they landed a pretty good alternative in the acquisition of Eli Stove as the 7th addition to the 2016 recruiting class. The WR from Niceville, FL is the 7th ranked WR and 12th best overall athlete in the state of Florida according to 247Sports. He joins highly sought-after TE Landon Rice as potential targets for Jeremy Johnson or Sean White in 2016.
Stoves' offer sheet is essentially the "Who's Who" of college football. Auburn, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, FSU, Miami, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and a partridge in a pear tree have offered Stove. Stove attended A-Day on an unofficial visit and was reportedly close to committing to the Tigers then, but decided to hold off a little longer.
Stove's primary recruiter was Dameyune Craig, the primary recruiter on recent Auburn commit Tre Threat of Spanish Fort, AL. Craig is picking up steam in this recruiting cycle. The addition of Threat bumped the Tigers up from the 26th ranked class to the 23rd ranked class according to the 247Sports Class Calculator. Stove's commitment catapults the Tigers up 10 spots to #13.
Auburn picked up a few good pass catchers in the 2015 cycle in Darius Slayton, Ryan Davis, and Jason Smith to replace Sammie Coates and Quan Bray after last season. With Ricardo Louis, Melvin Ray, and Duke Williams departing after the 2015 season and Auburn's other recent contributors such as Marcus Davis becoming upperclassmen, Auburn needs new blood at the wide out position. Davis could provide a great foundation to build upon for the 2015 class. A class that hopefully sees Nate Craig-Myers brought back into the fold, as well.
Want to know how he may be used in Malzahn's offense? Watch him take the sweeps in this highlight video and run the screens like Ricardo Louis and Quan Bray have done in the past. A combination of the two? I like it. That will provide even more ability for Gus Malzahn to run full-speed without substituting players.
