For the second time in three days, the Auburn Tigers will take on the College of Charleston Cougars.
After falling to the Cougars 7-6 in extra innings on Friday, the Tigers faced the Mercer Bears yesterday in an elimination game. It was a close game, but Auburn pitchers Rocky McCord and Keegan Thompson did a masterful job of shutting the Bears down. The Tigers came away with the one run 1-0 victory.
Meanwhile, the Cougars took on the home team Florida State Seminoles on Saturday afternoon. There have been four games in the Tallahassee Regional so far, and all four of them have been one run games. College of Charleston fell 3-2 to Florida State to drop into the Loser's Bracket.
It's win or go home at this point. A win would put the Tigers into a game against the Seminoles Sunday evening. A loss and the season is over. It's going to be a very interesting day in baseball, as Auburn's two primary starters have already thrown 5+ innings. I assume Dalton Rentz will get the nod for the Tigers, and I suspect we'll see Robby Clements at some point, as well. There's a chance Clements takes the mound in the early game in the hopes that we can save Rentz for the evening.
It's going to be tough, but hopefully the guys are channeling that never-quite vibe from the ladies in Oklahoma City and will keep the fight up.
