Coffee and Magnolia: 7 August 2015

News and notes from the Auburn corners of the Internet.

SOCCER

The ladies are glad to be back on the field preparing for the 2015 season. The official site has a good write-up and hype video as they're preparing for the season to begin.

BASKETBALL

ESPN breaks down the Diamond Head Classic, which will take place over Christmas. It will be a big stage for Bruce Pearl's second Auburn team, who will face New Mexico in the first game of the tournament.

FOOTBALL

The Watch List profiles continue here on College and Magnolia! Emily covers Carl Lawson this week, who is listed as a possible candidate for the Nagurski and Butkus Awards.

ESPN is on to 31-40 for their list of top players in the nation. Is there an Auburn player on that list? You betchya. That same player makes it into the 6-10 region for their top players in the SEC.

Alex Kozan is ready to get back onto the field and into the trenches of the Auburn offensive line. He spoke to the media following Wednesday's practice #2. A healthy Alex Kozan could give Auburn a very big boost in the rushing game.

Real-world requirements kept me from being able to do the tweet-cap of Will Muschamp's post-practice press conference, today. The beat writers were there, of course, to report on it. AL.com has a good quick wrap-up of what he said, and also provide a video for the press conference if you care to see that.

Asked about how he measures a successful defense, Will Muschamp was quick to emphasize that he doesn't exactly care about the stats. What matters the most are wins, and that success will hinge upon championships. There are also some thoughts from him on Auburn's situation with the Nickel position.

Roc Thomas and Peyton Barber spoke to the media following practice, today. Roc Thomas talked about his signature spin move and the dangers involved. Hopefully he knows to settle for the short yardage gains more this season rather than trying to force anything. Barber talked about his situation on the depth chart and admitted there were times he thought of transferring from Auburn.
